約翰內斯·斯卡普拉 – Lexicon Graecolatinum Novum – 日內瓦,Philippus Albertus – 1628
Impressive and complete early 17th-century Greek-Latin lexicon by the humanist scholar Johannes Scapula, printed in Geneva by Philippus Albertus in 1628.
Lexicon Graecolatinum Novum, in which Greek words are treated both lexicographically and etymologically, with explanations and references in Latin.
This edition also contains the important supplementary work by the Basel physician and philosopher Jacobus Zwinger (1569–1610), Graecarum Dialectorum Hypotyposis, devoted to the various ancient Greek dialects.
A substantial scholarly folio from the age of European Humanism, printed throughout in Greek and Latin in double columns and embellished with fine woodcut initials, ornaments and printer's devices.
Complete copy, including the original endpapers, the extensive lexicon, index and appendix, followed by Zwinger's work. The presence of the final leaves and Appendicis finis has been checked.
Bound in an old full-leather binding with raised bands and red-coloured edges. The binding shows considerable wear consistent with its age: loss of leather, particularly at the head of the spine and along the board edges, exposed binding structure and general rubbing. Nevertheless, the binding still holds the substantial book block together.
The interior is remarkably well preserved in comparison with the binding: generally clean, strong paper, clear impression of the Greek and Roman type and generous margins. Occasional stains, browning and other minor signs of use and age.
Geneva, Philippus Albertus, 1628.
An impressive, complete and highly decorative scholarly book, now almost 400 years old, documenting the study of Ancient Greek during the European humanist tradition.
In total 1855 pp. + 150 pages index and appendices.
