An impressive and very uncommon big cabinet size specimen of PYRITE with MAGNETITE from the classic Brosso Mine, Calea, Lessolo, Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, Italy.

This is a large, heavy and highly sculptural specimen weighing 1710 g, richly covered with sharp metallic crystals. Bright brassy-gold PYRITE crystals, reaching up to 14 mm, are beautifully exposed against a dark, magnetite-rich matrix. The contrast between the golden pyrite and the black to steel-grey MAGNETITE gives the piece a strong, dramatic and very mineralogical appearance.

The pyrite crystals show attractive geometric forms with reflective metallic luster, standing out clearly from the darker matrix. The specimen has a rugged, old-mining-district character, with multiple display angles and a very natural cabinet presence. Its size, weight and density make it feel much more substantial in hand than a standard cabinet specimen.

Specimens of PYRITE with MAGNETITE from Brosso are known and appreciated among European collectors, but pieces of this size and visual quality are much less commonly encountered. Most available examples from this locality are smaller hand specimens; a 1710 g big cabinet piece with visible pyrite crystals up to 14 mm is a particularly desirable and uncommon example.

The Brosso Mine is a classic historic Italian locality, well known for iron and pyrite mineralization. It belongs to the important mining district of Piedmont, and Brosso is specifically noted as a pyrite-producing mine, historically connected with pyrite extraction for sulphuric acid production. Mindat lists Brosso Mine as an iron/pyrite mine and confirms both PYRITE and MAGNETITE from this locality.
