With this square-format piece, Medsan lets the Pirate Crew’s straw-hat ship sail in front of the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline, at a sunrise with pastel tones.

The treatment adopts a warm impressionist oil: pink and peach sky rendered with vibrant strokes, mist enveloping the Manhattan skyscrapers, the green sea rough with foam shaped by matter. The little pirate ship, with a Jolly Roger sail and a sun motif prow, cuts through the waves in the foreground, cartoonish and joyful facing the majesty of the setting. A golden frame encircles the composition.

The artwork converses the adventure dream of One Piece with the American myth of liberty and new beginnings. The Statue, symbol of welcome and hope, salutes the pirates in search of their treasure — two imaginaries of escape and quest united in one image.
