In Northern and early medieval decorative traditions, the spiral was frequently associated with movement, continuity, renewal and the recurring cycles of nature and life.

At the heart of the composition is a raised almond-shaped or eye-shaped medallion containing a small dotted floral or solar device. This central symbol may be interpreted as a solar rosette, protective eye or seed of life, forming the spiritual focal point of the bezel. Surrounded by rotating spirals, it evokes the image of a sacred centre held within a living and constantly turning universe.
