卖家的描述
Vintage Japanese Enamel Sign “Miyakosen” Household Dye – Double-Sided – Showa Era
A colorful vintage Japanese double-sided enamel advertising sign for “Miyakosen” (みや古染), a traditional Japanese household fabric dye.
The inscriptions read “Katei Senryo” (家庭染料 – Household Dye) at the top, “Miyakosen” (みや古染) prominently in the center, and “Tokuyakuten” (特約店 – Authorized Dealer) at the bottom. The sign would originally have been displayed outside a shop officially selling Miyakosen products.
Household dyes were once a familiar part of everyday Japanese life. At a time when clothing and textiles were often repaired, reused and cared for over many years, dyeing offered a practical way to refresh faded fabrics or give old garments a new appearance. This sign therefore represents not only a commercial product, but also a glimpse into the domestic culture of Showa-era Japan.
Its design is particularly striking: a brilliant yellow background contrasts dramatically with the large deep-blue Japanese lettering, while the smaller red characters provide an additional accent. The bold, almost hand-painted typography is characteristic of vintage Japanese commercial advertising and gives the piece tremendous decorative presence.
An especially desirable feature is its double-sided construction, with essentially the same design on both sides. Such signs were intended to be visible to pedestrians approaching a shop from either direction.
With its vivid colors, bold Japanese typography and genuine signs of age, this is an attractive piece for collectors of Japanese advertising, Showa-era memorabilia, vintage enamel signs, textile history and retro industrial décor.
More than simply an advertisement, it is a surviving fragment of the colorful streetscape and everyday life of old Japan.
