◎ This Shigaraki Ware vase was made in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, the birthplace of Shigaraki Ware.

The surface of the vase features a beautiful emerald-green, glass-like glaze known as “Vidro,” which appears to have flowed naturally across the surface under the intense heat of the kiln. The vase was hand-formed by Bunsen(文仙), and its bold, rustic form is beautifully complemented by subtle and refined details.

Shigaraki Ware is one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns and is closely associated with the Japanese aesthetic of “Wabi-Sabi,” which finds beauty in imperfection, simplicity, and the natural aging of objects.

The strong, rustic texture of the clay and the natural patterns created by the flames give this vase a distinctive character. It would be ideal for ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), while also making a sophisticated decorative piece that can add a sense of depth and tranquility to any interior.

Shigaraki Ware, produced in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, is known for its distinctive “Hi-iro” (scarlet-red) coloring and its powerful, expressive surface texture.

Natural Character of the Clay:
High-quality local clay containing iron and feldspar creates a warm, distinctive rough texture during firing.
Natural Glaze (Vidro):
During firing, wood ash melts and adheres to the surface of the vessel, creating a glass-like natural glaze known as “Vidro.” Its emerald-green tones beautifully enhance the surface.
Kiln Effects (Yohen):
Unexpected changes caused by the flames, ash, and conditions inside the kiln create unique patterns and colors, making each piece one of a kind.

【Condition】
Although this piece is in good overall condition, it is a vintage item believed to have been made during the late Showa period (around the 1980s), and minor scratches or signs of age may be present.
