DESCRIPTION:
Like a fragment of violet ice shaped into an impossible geometry, this natural Tanzanite immediately distinguishes itself through an exceptionally edgy and sculptural morphology. A dominant pointed projection rises sharply upward while a second lateral extension develops in another direction, creating an asymmetric silhouette with remarkable personality. It is precisely this unconventional architecture that makes the specimen so visually distinctive.
Its colour follows the complexity of its form. Rich bluish violet and lavender blue dominate the principal crystalline section, while other areas transition toward much paler lilac and almost colourless silvery tones. This natural bicolour appearance becomes particularly expressive as the crystal is rotated, with different sections acquiring greater chromatic intensity according to orientation and illumination.
The numerous natural crystalline planes interact strongly with light, producing brilliant vitreous reflections across the irregular surface. Some areas become almost mirror bright, while thinner sections allow light to travel through the material and reveal a delicate internal transparency. Together with its colour variation, this creates a lively specimen whose appearance changes considerably between perspectives.
Particularly attractive are the fine natural growth textures visible across several surfaces. Their directional character complements the sharp geometry of the crystal, while the combination of pointed projections, angular planes and irregular elevations creates an unusually complex three dimensional structure for such a compact specimen.
Originating from Block D of the Merelani Hills, Tanzania, this crystal comes from the unique geological locality responsible for the world’s Tanzanite. Its distinctive bicolour expression, sharp multidirectional morphology and highly individual silhouette give this specimen an identity entirely its own, combining the geological exclusivity of Tanzanite with an exceptionally expressive natural form.
SPECIFICATIONS:
• Weight: 0.23 g
• Weight in carats: 1.15 ct
• Dimensions: 10 × 9 × 4 mm
• Origin: Merelani Hills, Block D, Tanzania
• Mineral species: Zoisite
• Variety: Tanzanite
• Crystal system: Orthorhombic
• Crystal habit: Natural irregular multidirectional crystal
• Morphology: Strongly angular with prominent vertical and lateral projections
• Colour: Bluish violet, lavender blue and pale lilac
• Colour distribution: Distinct natural bicolour zoning
• Optical behaviour: Strong directional colour variation
• Transparency: Transparent to translucent
• Lustre: Vitreous
• Surface features: Natural crystalline planes and fine growth textures
• Treatment: None
• Condition: Natural, unpolished crystal
NOTABLE POINTS:
• Exceptionally distinctive morphology
A dramatic combination of vertical and lateral projections gives the crystal an unmistakable natural silhouette.
• Strong sculptural character
Sharp angles and multiple crystalline planes create an almost architectural three dimensional structure.
• Natural bicolour expression
Bluish violet areas transition beautifully into pale lilac and silvery translucent zones.
• Beautiful violet blue saturation
The principal crystalline section displays an attractive concentration of classic Tanzanite colour.
• Excellent directional colour behaviour
Rotation reveals significant changes in colour intensity across different sections of the specimen.
• Prominent upward projection
The principal pointed section creates a strong vertical emphasis and immediately draws attention.
• Distinctive lateral projection
A secondary crystalline extension gives the specimen its unusual multidirectional geometry.
• Bright vitreous lustre
Numerous natural planes generate brilliant reflections under direct illumination.
• Visible natural growth textures
Fine surface structures preserve the geological character of the original crystal.
• Block D provenance
Originating from the celebrated Block D area of the Merelani Hills, Tanzania.
COLLECTOR’S INTEREST:
The principal collector appeal of this Tanzanite lies in the combination of Block D provenance, natural bicolour character and exceptionally individual morphology. Rather than presenting a conventional elongated habit, the crystal develops in multiple directions through prominent pointed projections and angular planes, creating a sculptural silhouette that is immediately recognisable. Its violet blue and pale lilac colour contrast further accentuates this architecture, making it particularly attractive as a natural Tanzanite specimen.
LAPIDARY POTENTIAL:
Although Tanzanite is highly valued as faceting material, the strongest identity of this specimen lies in its natural form. Its unusual projections, bicolour distribution and complex surface geometry would largely disappear through cutting. Preservation in its present state therefore allows its distinctive morphology, natural growth textures and complete chromatic character to remain fully appreciated.

Shipping and Handling:
All orders are shipped by Portuguese National Post and UPS.
• Dispatch time: within 1 to 3 business days after payment confirmation to Catawiki
• Transit time service: between 2 to 5 business days within europe and worldwide, depending on destination national post.

Photography and transparency:
All photographs are taken under controlled lighting conditions using a macro lens, carefully selected to present each specimen as accurately as possible.
No filters, colour enhancement, or artificial saturation are applied.
The lighting setup uses a calibrated 5500K light source, replicating neutral daylight to reveal natural tones, surface features, and internal characteristics. Under warmer or weaker indoor lighting, colours may appear slightly different, which is normal.
The purpose of this photographic process is documentation and representation, not visual enhancement. Images are intended to reflect the specimen faithfully as it appears under balanced natural light conditions.
Identification and ethics:
All specimens offered are natural and described to the best of our knowledge, based on direct sourcing, professional experience, and information provided by trusted suppliers working at the origin.
Every effort is made to ensure transparency and accuracy regarding identification, locality, and general characteristics, avoiding misleading statements about treatment, provenance, or nature.
Customs and import taxes:
Any customs duties, import fees, or local taxes applied by the destination country are entirely the responsibility of the winning bidder.
These charges are not included in the auction price or shipping cost and are determined by the buyer’s local authorities.
Guarantee and resolution:
Customer satisfaction is important. In the unlikely event of an issue such as loss, damage, or discrepancy, please contact us promptly through Catawiki’s messaging system.
Each case is handled individually and fairly, with appropriate solutions offered when justified.
Appreciation and commitment:
We sincerely thank you for your trust. Our work focuses on careful selection, accurate representation, and respectful presentation of mineral specimens with character and interest.
Each piece is chosen for its individual qualities rather than speculative or financial considerations. We aim to provide a transparent, reliable, and consistent experience for collectors at all levels.
