卖家的描述
Yusaimon Glazed Vase by Kanzan Shinkai — With Original Tomobako Box
A striking vase by Kanzan Shinkai, a leading figure of modern Kyoto ware and recipient of the Japan Art Academy Prize. The tall, tapering form is glazed in a deep, warm iron-brown tone across the lower body, while the wide-mouthed upper section is decorated in Shinkai's distinctive yusaimon (glaze-color pattern) technique — bold, radiating lines in cream and rust glaze streaming down from the rim like falling rays. The dynamic contrast between the sculptural, textured neck and the smooth, dark body reflects the bold yet refined sensibility that defined Shinkai's independent path within the Kyoto ceramic tradition. Comes with its original tomobako box and shiori booklet.
【Artist Profile】
Kanzan Shinkai (1912–2011) was born in Kyoto, the son of a family long engaged in the ceramics trade; his grandfather was the third-generation Seifu Yohei and his uncle the fourth-generation Seifu Yohei. After graduating from the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts, he was first selected for the Imperial Fine Arts Exhibition (Teiten) in 1930, and from 1932 studied under the fifth-generation Rokubei Kiyomizu. Before the war his work centered on sometsuke (blue-and-white) porcelain shown at the Teiten and Shin-Bunten exhibitions. He was drafted in 1943 and sent to China, later enduring internment in Siberia, before returning to Japan in 1948, after which he devoted himself to researching clay bodies and developed his mature work primarily through the Nitten exhibition. He won the Special Prize at the 7th Nitten in 1951 and was elevated to full member in 1958. He received the Minister of Education Award at the 6th Nitten (reorganized) in 1974, and in 1980 was awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize for his work "Genchō" (Migrating Bird). In 1984 he received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and in 1989 the Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Award for Special Merit, among numerous other honors. Kanzan Shinkai is known for a distinctive body of work moving beyond traditional Kyo-yaki, employing motifs of animals, fish, and birds rendered through iron glazes, incised carving, and inlay techniques. Works by Kanzan Shinkai are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work.
