Russian 12-piece set of teaspoons made of gilded silver with polychrome cloisonné enamel, Grigorij Michailowitsch Sbitnew workshop (Григорий Михайлович Сбитнев), Moscow, circa 1900 / early 20th century.

The complete ensemble consists of 12 teaspoons of gilded 84-zolotniki silver with elaborate polychrome cloisonné enamel work.

The bowls are decorated with symmetrical floral ornaments in strong blue, turquoise, green, red, and white tones. Fine cloisonné wires divide the individual enamel fields. The twisted stems are also adorned with colorful enamel decorative elements at both ends.

Punch marks

The spoons bear the master mark Г.С., attributed to Grigorij Michailowitsch Sbitnew. Sbitnew was the owner of a Moscow factory for gold, silver, and bronze wares founded in 1893. In relevant Russian literature, his well-known works explicitly include cloisonné-enamel spoons.

Furthermore, the spoons bear the Russian 84-zolotniki silver hallmark, corresponding to a fineness of 875/1000.

An interesting additional small mark ААТ. The marks АТ / ААТ are attributed to Albanus Aronowitsch Taiwanen (Тайванен / Тойванен), a gold- and silver-dealer and gold- and silversmith from Finland who operated in St. Petersburg. The additional mark likely indicates distribution, commission, or a business connection via Taiwanen.

The set is housed in its presumably original, specially fitted case. The lid is especially decorative with faceted glass, through which the spoons can also be displayed when the case is closed. The bright interior is tailored to the shape and arrangement of all twelve spoons.

The set is in a very good, age-appropriate condition. The elaborate cloisonné enamel work and the intense colorfulness are particularly noteworthy. There are age- and wear-related marks, visible in the photos.

An attractive and fully preserved ensemble of Russian silver and enamel art from the late Tsarist era.
