Antique Japanese Satsuma Ware Incense Burner (Koro) - Geisha Motif - Gold Gilt - Meiji Period
A fine Japanese Satsuma-style incense burner (香炉, koro) featuring richly detailed polychrome enamel decoration with gold gilt highlights throughout. The globular body rests on three gilt feet and is decorated with hand-painted panels depicting a seated geisha figure in kimono, surrounded by wisteria, chrysanthemum, and iris motifs. The cream crackle glaze ground (ひび) is characteristic of Satsuma ware. Two gilt lion-head handles flank the body. The domed lid features bold polychrome patchwork enamel in teal, burgundy, and ochre, with a pierced opening for incense smoke to escape.
