Fine Vintage Hereke 100% Natural Silk-on-Silk Rug – Handwoven, c. 1950s
Presenting an exceptional imperial-quality Hereke rug, handwoven circa the 1950s entirely from 100% natural silk on a pure silk foundation. Measuring approximately 76.5 × 50 cm excluding fringes, this is a small-format rug of remarkable refinement, density, and visual presence.
The craftsmanship is extraordinary: approximately 10 × 10 knots per cm², equal to 100 knots/cm², approximately 1,000,000 knots per square meter or 645 KPSI. Across its 3,825 cm² field, this represents an estimated 382,500 individually tied knots—a remarkable concentration of skilled handwork within such an intimate format.
One of the most mesmerizing qualities of genuine natural silk is its interaction with light. The photographs showing dramatically different shades are not digitally manipulated: depending upon the direction of the light and viewing angle, the silk reflects completely different hues, at times making the same rug appear almost like two different pieces. This luminous, shifting character is among the great pleasures of a fine silk rug and is truly captivating when seen in person.
The surface is extraordinarily soft and tactile, with the smooth, supple sensation associated with the finest natural silk. The colors are derived from natural dyes (no artificial substances whatsoever), giving the colors a depth and harmony beautifully suited to the shimmering silk pile.
At Oxus Treasures, we deal only in rugs that we represent as genuine 100% natural silk and do not rely upon generic so-called "certificates of authenticity" as proof of material. For this rug, we guarantee the silk to be 100% natural silk on silk.
Our 30-Day Love-It Guarantee
We believe a rug of this quality should inspire more than simple satisfaction. If, for any reason, you do not LOVE this rug—not merely think it is "OK"—you may return it within 30 days at your own shipping expense. We will refund the full amount actually received by us from Catawiki for the purchase, no questions asked.
A magnificent combination of natural silk, exceptional knot density, traditional craftsmanship, natural color, and extraordinary optical brilliance—equally suited to a serious textile collection or as a jewel-like centerpiece in an elegant interior. A solid heirloom.
Condition: No damages whatsoever and professionally washed.
