Verrerie d’Art Degué - David Guéron - 吊灯 - 玻璃

Authentic signed French Art Deco pendant chandelier by Degué, the celebrated glassworks founded by David Guéron, dating from around 1930.

The chandelier consists of a large shallow moulded-glass bowl in a delicate pale rose-pink colour, suspended from three patinated metal chains and fitted with an ornate brass ceiling canopy.

The glass bears the clearly visible signature “Degué” near the rim, confirming its manufacture by Verrerie d’Art Degué.

The bowl is decorated with a striking repeating pattern of stylised overlapping flowers or fan-shaped leaves. Each motif is formed by radiating ribs and alternating frosted and clearer polished sections, producing the strong geometric interpretation of natural forms that is characteristic of French Art Deco glass from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

The decorative vocabulary combines floral inspiration with strongly structured geometric composition. This combination of naturalistic subject matter and angular, fan-like abstraction is particularly associated with French interwar Art Deco lighting.

The pale pink glass has considerable visual depth. Some areas are softly frosted, while others remain more translucent, allowing the design to change dramatically according to the direction and intensity of the light.

The chandelier retains its traditional three-chain suspension system. The long rectangular-link chains rise to an ornamental brass ceiling canopy, while an old twisted textile-covered electrical cable runs through the suspension.

The brass Edison screw lamp holder and the visible age-related oxidation and patination of the metalwork are consistent with the period character of the fitting.

David Guéron established Verrerie d’Art Degué in France during the 1920s. Under the Degué name, the company became especially known for Art Deco vases, architectural glass and lighting. Moulded and pressed glass with frosted, polished and contrasting surface treatments formed an important part of the company’s production.

The present chandelier is a very representative example of this work: a large-format French Art Deco “vasque” ceiling light combining sculptural moulded glass, geometric floral ornament and restrained metal fittings.

Its relatively broad diameter of approximately 39 cm gives it a substantial architectural presence while the shallow bowl profile keeps the fixture visually elegant.

The uncommon pale rose / salmon-pink tone makes this example particularly decorative. When illuminated, the pink frosted glass should produce a considerably warmer and softer appearance than when seen in daylight.

Minor surface wear, small manufacturing irregularities, scratches and tiny edge imperfections may be present, as expected in original pressed glass of this age.

The metal chains, ceiling canopy and associated fittings display substantial age-related oxidation, patination and discoloration.

The textile-covered electrical wiring is old and shows visible age.

The electrical installation has not been certified. For safe use, the chandelier should be inspected and, if necessary, rewired by a qualified electrician before installation.
