Observations: Here we present a quite nicely preserved Keichousaurus specimen. Its preservation is particularly remarkable, mainly at the skull and neck. It is very common to find many fake or heavily restored Keichousaurus specimens on the market. However, this specimen is quite nice, even considering the restored fractures on the matrix.
The preservation of the bones is impressive, and the level of detail is outstanding, mainly at the skull and full vertebrae from the neck, which is fully pristine perfect even preserving all the skull bones and some teeth still inside their dentaries alveoli. Skeleton preserved in dorsal view.
It is a nice collector piece, far away from the typical bullshit. The specimen has been carefully prepared professionally using micro sandblasting. The restorations carried out consist primarily of gluing and filling fractures in the matrix. This specimen has been highlighted using a painting technique, but with minimum surface area, mainly at the postcraneal skeleton. Its tiny legs with their tarsals and phalanxes are quite well preserved as well.
Most of the "restoration" has been performed on the matrix fractures. The matrix was a thin slab that broke into multiple fragments during excavation. To increase its stability, the fractures were glued and filled, and a thicker slab was attached to the base to make the piece more robust and less fragile.
Keichousaurus hui is a small marine reptile from the Triassic of southern China. A member of the Pachypleurosauridae family, with a long neck, paddle-like limbs, and a slender tail, adapted for swimming in shallow marine environments.
