Karl Palda Art Deco Rosaline Crystal Liqueur Set – Bohemia, 1930s

An elegant and highly characteristic Art Deco liqueur set by Karl Palda, produced in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, during the 1930s. The set consists of a decanter with its original faceted stopper and three matching liqueur glasses, all executed in a refined warm rosaline-pink crystal.

The design is a beautiful expression of the geometric language of the Art Deco period. The substantial crystal has been entirely worked by hand, with numerous precisely cut and engraved facets creating an architectural rhythm across the surfaces. Particularly striking is the large polygonal stopper, conceived almost like a cut gemstone and perfectly complementing the faceted body of the decanter. The same decorative vocabulary continues on the small glasses, giving the ensemble a remarkably harmonious appearance.

The subtle pink coloration combined with the deep hand-cut decoration produces beautiful optical effects as light passes through the crystal, shifting from delicate smoky rose to warmer amber-pink tones. Despite its relatively restrained decoration, the set has a distinctly luxurious and sculptural presence typical of high-quality Bohemian crystal of the interwar period.

Condition: Good vintage condition, especially considering that the set is approaching a century in age. No major chips or significant damage. The Karl Palda glassworks was established in 1888 in Haida (today Nový Bor), one of the historic centres of Bohemian glassmaking. The company became particularly celebrated during the Art Deco period for its sophisticated cut and engraved crystal, producing decanters, drinking sets, perfume bottles, vanity sets, vases and other luxury objects.

The 1930s represent one of the most distinctive periods in Karl Palda production, when the manufactory developed the bold geometric vocabulary for which its work is now immediately recognizable among collectors. Surviving period catalogues document an exceptionally varied production of luxury glassware. Today, Karl Palda’s strongly geometric interwar designs are regarded as some of the most recognizable and desirable examples of Bohemian Art Deco crystal.
