Very beautiful and matching set of three Japanese Arita porcelain plates, dating from the Meiji period (1868-1912).
The polychrome and gold decoration, predominantly red (Akae style), is richly adorned with various geometric and floral medallions (Marumon motifs).
In the center, each plate features two large hand-painted fans depicting traditional characters in period costumes (dignitaries/scholars) in a flowered garden. On the back, each plate bears the same four-character factory mark painted in red underglaze: (Made by Kuruma in Hizen).
The three circular spur marks from traditional kiln firing are also visible.Origin: Japan (Arita / Hizen Province)Period: Meiji Period (19th - early 20th century)
Dimensions: Diameter of 22 cm per plate
Good overall condition considering their age. No hairline cracks, no major chips or restorations.
Note slight normal wear to the gilding on the rim and small firing irregularities or minor superficial flakes on the thick black enamel of the characters (please see detailed photos to assess the condition).
