卖家的描述
Period: Medieval / Crusader Era, circa 11th–14th century
Material: Bronze
Weight: 4.5 g
Dimensions: approx. 12.8 mm
Form: Square, double-sided amulet
An intriguing small medieval bronze amulet of compact square form, decorated on both faces with unusual raised symbolic designs.
The obverse bears an enigmatic diagonal device accompanied by a cluster of pellets, all contained within a clearly defined rectangular border. The precise meaning of this motif remains uncertain; it may represent a highly stylized sacred sign, staff, branch or abbreviated symbol.
The reverse is particularly striking, displaying a symmetrical composition of two crossed staffs or rods, surrounded by groups of raised pellets. The crossed arrangement creates an X-shaped protective composition reminiscent of the saltire or St Andrew's Cross, although the objects themselves appear more elaborate than simple cross arms.
The surrounding pellets may have served primarily as ornament, but their deliberate grouping gives the design a distinctly talismanic and symbolic appearance. In medieval Christian material culture, crosses, sacred abbreviations and geometric signs were frequently employed on small personal objects associated with faith and protection.
Its diminutive 12.8 mm size and substantial 4.5 g weight make it an unusually compact and tactile devotional object.
The amulet retains a dark aged bronze surface with areas of green and earthy patination. A modern silver suspension ring and silver chain have been added so that the object can be worn as a historical pendant.
