A very good and well-preserved caudal vertebra of Spinosaurus, displaying a substantial and clearly defined vertebral centrum, together with the basal portions of the neural spine and transverse processes.
Scientifically, Spinosaurus caudal vertebrae are particularly interesting because the tail of this remarkable theropod was highly specialized. The caudal series is characterized by robust centra associated with strongly developed neural spines and transverse processes, which become especially elongated in portions of the tail. This distinctive morphology produced a tall, laterally expanded tail profile and is consistent with the unusual locomotor adaptations proposed for Spinosaurus. Although the upper portions of the processes are not preserved in this specimen, their surviving bases and the morphology of the centrum clearly illustrate the characteristic construction of a spinosaurid caudal vertebra.
The specimen retains attractive natural surface texture, coloration and anatomical detail, making it an excellent representative example of Spinosaurus axial anatomy and an appealing fossil for a serious dinosaur collection.
Condition: Several natural fractures have been re-glued and lightly filled for stabilization and presentation. Restoration is minor and does not significantly affect the overall quality or integrity of the specimen.
