Suiseki、Bonseki、Viewing stone - Takanejima Stone (高根島石)
Item Description:
A distinctive set of two small Japanese suiseki / viewing stones from Takanejima, each with a very different natural character and display appeal.
Left: Takanejima Stone (高根島石) – Naturally Perforated Stone
A fascinating naturally weathered stone featuring multiple holes and cavities created by marine shellfish. Its pale gray surface is richly textured, with subtle beige and darker mineral tones that enhance its rugged, aged appearance. One of the original shells has deliberately been left inside the stone, preserving an evocative trace of the natural process that formed the cavities.
The irregular openings give the stone a dramatic, sculptural quality and allow light to pass through from different angles. It is displayed on a fitted dark wooden daiza.
Right: Takanejima Stone (高根島石) – Daruma Form
A smooth, rounded viewing stone with a compact silhouette reminiscent of a traditional Daruma figure. The gray body is crossed near the upper section by a striking natural pale mineral band, creating a strong visual accent that resembles a belt or facial division.
The contrast between the softly rounded shape and the horizontal white band gives this stone a simple yet memorable character. It is displayed on a fitted dark base made from wood clay rather than solid wood.
Both stones are natural specimens and therefore display naturally occurring irregularities, variations in color, surface texture, cavities, and mineral inclusions. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition and individual characteristics.
