A remarkable survivor from the dawn of coinage. Struck around 625–600 BC, when electrum still predominated, it ranks among the earliest known silver coins. With only around a dozen recorded examples, this unpublished type is exceptionally rare.

Archaic Ionia was one of the earliest centers of coinage in the ancient world. Its wealthy Greek cities, connected by maritime trade with Lydia and the wider eastern Mediterranean, pioneered the use of struck money in electrum and silver. Many of the earliest fractional issues cannot be securely assigned to a particular city, reflecting a formative period before civic coinage became standardized.
