Vintage Collectible Lighter "Silver Match" (1950s–1960s)
Manufacturer: Silver Match (Paris, France) – a brand founded by Robert Hocq, renowned for his innovations in the field of gas lighters in the post-war period.
Period: Approximately 1955–1965.
General condition: Original vintage piece, kept in complete set with original presentation box. The rotation mechanism is functional (it spins freely), the body shows no structural deformations, and the internal metal tank is present and intact. It requires gas refilling and the installation of a new flint stone to be put into operation.
Design and Material Details
External housing: Elegant design with fluid and rounded lines, strongly inspired by the "Streamline Moderne" style of the era. The sides are covered in a natural leather cover in a reddish-brown (burgundy) shade, finished by hand.
Silver plating: The outer metal edges and base are finished with authentic silver plating. The metal has a natural, fine patina, specific to the passage of time, which enhances its vintage character.
Internal mechanism: It features the first generation of the “gas-block” system (interchangeable and refillable L-shaped metal tank), a major technical innovation of the brand in those years that ensures superior tightness.
Authenticity Marks (Base)
Main inscription: Clear engraving with the text SILVER MATCH.
Patent: The PATENT mark, which attests to the legal protection of the design and its own mechanism.
Manufacturer's stamp: A small geometric stamp embedded in the metal (specific to French manufactures for métal argenté), which certifies the authentic silver plating and the controlled provenance of the object.
Presentation Item (Box)
The lighter comes in its original box with a brown textured exterior.
The interior is lined with satin and white/cream velvet, bearing the brand's golden royal coat of arms, the country of origin inscription (FRANCE) and the model name written in gold letters: SILVER MATCH.
A remarkable piece of mid-20th century French industrial design, ideal for collectors of mid-century luxury items or enthusiasts of historical smoking accessories
