About the artwork

White Shoreline is an original sculptural painting by Samia Kerkeni, created in 2023 as an exploration of the boundary between painting, material and landscape.

A luminous expanse of textured white crosses a delicate mineral pink field like a shoreline seen from above. Rather than representing a literal landscape, Kerkeni reduces the image to its essential elements: matter, movement, light and silence.

The white areas are physically constructed through irregular layers and pronounced relief. Ridges, deposits and subtle variations in thickness transform the surface into an almost geological terrain.

This three-dimensional character is essential to the work. As natural or artificial light changes direction, micro-shadows appear across the relief and continuously alter the perception of the composition. From a distance, the work feels calm and minimal; viewed closely, its surface reveals a complex sculptural topography.

The restrained palette of mineral white, powder pink and subtle natural nuances reinforces the architectural quality of the composition and allows the texture itself to become the principal visual language.

About Samia Kerkeni

Samia Kerkeni is an artist and researcher whose practice focuses particularly on fluid painting, pouring, pigments, material experimentation and textured surfaces.

Her artistic research explores the behaviour of colour and matter: their movement, density, interaction, accumulation and transformation across the canvas.

Through years of experimentation, pouring has become one of the central languages of her practice. Rather than approaching it solely as a decorative fluid technique, Kerkeni investigates how controlled movement and material reactions can generate compositions that exist between abstraction, organic structures and natural phenomena.

Her sculptural works extend this research further. Acrylic and mixed media are built into physical relief, allowing light and shadow to participate directly in the artwork.

For this reason, White Shoreline can be experienced both as a painting and as a contemporary sculptural surface.
