Obv: Head of the nymph Histiaia to right, wearing wreath of grape leaves and berries.
Rev: IΣTI- AIEΩN. Nymph seated right on stern of galley, holding stylis in her left hand and resting her right on the deck; on the side of the stern, wing; below, ΣI and labrys.

Histiaia was a major polis of northern Euboea, commanding a fertile plain and sea routes toward Thessaly. During the Euboean revolt of 446 BC, it was subdued by Pericles, its inhabitants expelled and Athenians settled at Oreos. Later restored, Histiaia became especially renowned for its prolific silver coinage, often depicting the nymph Histiaia seated on a ship’s stern.
