Pergamon was a major cultural and political center of Hellenistic Asia Minor, renowned for the Attalid dynasty, monumental architecture, and intellectual achievements. Its devotion to Athena Nikephoros, goddess of victory, and the depiction of a trophy symbolized divine favor and military strength. After its bequest to Rome in 133 BC, Pergamon remained an important urban and artistic center.
