slender, elegant glass bud vase — titled "Tokowaka" (常磐, Eternal Youth) — by one of Japan's most celebrated modern glass artists, Hisatoshi Iwata.

The vessel rises in a graceful elongated silhouette, the body suffused with a delicate smoky rose hue achieved through the artist's mastery of free-blown colored glass. The surface carries a subtly textured, almost mineral quality — warm and luminous when held to the light. At approximately 23 cm tall, the narrow neck and gently swelling body create a quiet, meditative presence perfectly suited to a single stem of ikebana.

The title "Tokowaka" — meaning "eternally young" or "ever-green" — reflects the timeless sensibility Iwata brought to his work: rooted in Japanese aesthetics, yet entirely his own.

【Artist Profile】
Hisatoshi Iwata (岩田久利, 1925–1994) was among the foremost Japanese glass artists of the twentieth century. Born into a celebrated glass-making family — the son of pioneer glass artist Iwata Toshichi II — he studied at the prestigious Tokyo School of Fine Arts before devoting his life to advancing colored, free-blown glass as a fine art form. His works entered the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Corning Museum of Glass, and he received the Japan Art Academy Award in 1983. He founded the Japan Glass Crafts Association in 1972 and served as its first chairman. Works by Hisatoshi Iwata are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work.
