Model History:

During the 1970s and early 1980s, Oris produced a diverse range of classically proportioned mechanical wristwatches combining traditional Swiss movements with distinctive dial designs. Reference 7459-40 is notable for its compact stainless-steel case, subsidiary seconds display and unusually positioned date aperture at 12 o’clock.

This particular version has a military-inspired black dial with warm Arabic numerals, luminous hands and contrasting surface finishes. Its sunburst centre and more restrained outer section react differently to changing light, while the subsidiary seconds register provides a balanced traditional appearance.

The watch is powered by the manually wound Oris calibre 366, based on the Swiss Peseux 7046. This slim 17-jewel movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and incorporates a date display and subsidiary seconds.

Condition:

The watch is in good vintage condition and presents attractively. Its unusual black dial combines a sunburst central section with a contrasting outer area, while the warm cream-coloured Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds register give it a distinctive vintage character.

The dial shows some age-related surface imperfections and discolouration, primarily across its lower section and around the subsidiary seconds register. Their visibility varies depending on the angle and lighting and, although noticeable upon closer inspection, they do not significantly detract from the watch’s overall appearance. The printing and Arabic numerals remain clearly legible.

The hands and numerals show light age-related patination. The luminous material in the hands still responds when exposed to light.

The stainless-steel case is in good overall condition, displaying scratches, small marks and normal signs of previous wear. Its polished surfaces remain bright, and the characteristic stepped bezel and curved lugs are well preserved. The case back shows light superficial scratches.

A new, scratch-free crystal and a new black leather strap have been fitted. The manually wound movement has been recently serviced, and all functions are operating correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on functionality.
