卖家的描述
Large Green Aragonite with Native Sulfur – Giumentaro Mine, Sicily, Italy
********************
An outstanding large specimen of green aragonite associated with native sulfur from the historic Giumentaro Mine, Sicily, Italy.
This is the largest of three similar green aragonite specimens from my collection, with substantial dimensions of 23 × 19 × 13 cm (9.06 × 7.48 × 5.12 in) and a weight of 2.63 kg (5.80 lb).
The specimen is dominated by an attractive development of green aragonite crystals, displaying the distinctive coloration that makes this material from Giumentaro particularly desirable. The three-dimensional arrangement of the crystals gives the piece considerable depth and makes it impressive from several viewing angles.
A particularly striking feature is the presence of a well-defined aggregate of bright yellow native sulfur, which provides a beautiful natural contrast against the green aragonite. The combination of the two colors and distinctly different crystal habits gives this specimen a strong visual character.
Under 365 nm UV light, the aragonite displays fluorescence followed, after the UV source is switched off, by a clearly visible phosphorescent afterglow.
The specimen has been carefully cleaned under laboratory conditions to reveal and preserve its natural crystalline surfaces.
