Item Description:
Hida-Takayama is home to a woodworking tradition spanning over 1,300 years, associated with the skilled carpenters known as the Hida no Takumi. At its heart is a respect for wood: understanding the character of each timber and bringing out its natural beauty.

Zelkova, known as keyaki in Japan, is valued for its hardness, durability, and distinctive grain. This three-drawer miniature chest by Takayama Keyaki Kogei brings those material qualities into a compact piece, combining practical storage with the decorative presence of traditional Japanese cabinetry.

Its warm reddish-brown finish highlights the flowing grain across the drawer fronts and the varied patterns on the top and sides. Black metal corner fittings frame the wood, while shaped decorative plates and textured drop handles give it the character of a traditional Japanese tansu.

The richly colored exterior contrasts with the lighter wooden drawer interiors. Green felt covers the underside, and the maker's gold-colored label remains attached near the lower edge of the exterior.

Ideal for jewelry, small keepsakes, and personal treasures, it can be enjoyed on a desk, shelf, or bedside table. The expressive grain, warm color, and dark metal detailing make it an appealing decorative object as well as a useful miniature chest.

Condition:
There are stains inside the second drawer and white scuff lines on an exterior side panel. Minor surface wear is visible on the wood and metal fittings. No other noticeable staining is present. Please examine the photographs for details.
