Listing Title
Zenith – Automatic Hex Case, Cal. 2572 pcs, 23 Jewels – 36 mm – Men – 1970-1979
Description
The 70s and without apologizing for it
A round dial embedded in a hexagon. Flat facets brushed at twelve and six, polished flanks that descend to integrated sharp tips, a tamed crystal that stands proudly of the bezel. No one was designing watch cases like this before 1970, and no one was doing it after 1979. This one is exactly his decade, and he wears it well.
The dial is champagne with a brushed vertical finish that changes as light passes over it. Twelve gold bars applied with black inlays, a printed minute track, a framed date at three, and a thin central second tongue. Below twelve, the Zenith star in its square — the logo used by the brand in the '70s and the details of collectors of that era look first.
Movement and why does Movado write
Remove the case and rotor displays MOVADO FACTORIES — SWISS 23 JEWELS — ZENITH. Not a mismatch. Movado-Zenith was founded in 1969 in La Chaux-de-Fonds and bought Mondia later that year; over the next decade, the group's factories built mechanisms that bore several names. This rotor is a physical record of that period in Swiss watchmaking.
The plate is stamped with the caliber: 2572 PC. Automatic, 23 jewels, date. Marked UNADJUSTED, like these.
Details that survived
The buckle is the original Zenith buckle, gold, with the star logo stamped — the first thing to disappear on a fifty-year-old watch, and it's still here. The strap is made of brand-new, unworn, handmade, dark blue snakeskin, chosen to sit on a gold background, not to match anything else.
Honestly what it's about
The back of the screw housing is made of stainless steel, stamped on the inside with the Zenith logo and ZENITH SWISS.
There are fine scratches along the upper edge of the marshmallow, visible under nauseating light, and slight traces of manipulation on the back of the case. Everything is in the photos, deliberately photographed, not hidden.
