The salad helm is a helmet that appeared at the end of the 15th century and gradually replaced the bacinet.
They could have a retractable visor or be simply a complete and singular piece, with a slit to allow sight. Some had no visor (open salad) and others added a removable beak.
This replica features a gothic helmet widely used by infantry in the 16th century, mainly the rodeleros, but especially by cavalry, for its full and comfortable fit
It is of German inspiration and suitable to recreate the early 16th century, a period during which the great feats of the American conquest were accomplished.
Today, contrary to the more traditional belief, historians are inclined to support that this type of helmet was much more common among conquerors than the morion itself.
