Vintage Colibri Florentine Ceramic Table Lighter – Handmade in Italy

A striking vintage Colibri Florentine table lighter, handmade in Italy, dating approximately from the 1960s–1970s.

The piece has a beautifully decorated ceramic/porcelain body with an elaborate neoclassical Grecian-style scene depicting dancing female figures in classical dress. The decoration continues around almost the entire circumference and is complemented by deep red, white and gold detailing.

The ceramic body is marked “COLIBRI HAND MADE”. The lighter is fitted with a Colibri table-lighter mechanism with a long flint and spring-loaded striking system. The mechanism produces a strong spark and is mechanically responsive. The lighter has not been tested with gas, as the appropriate filling adapter is not available.

The underside of the mechanical assembly is additionally marked “R OF IRELAND”, consistent with Colibri mechanisms/components manufactured in Ireland, while the ceramic body is clearly marked as handmade in Italy.

The decorative gold-tone metal fittings show age-related surface wear and fine scratches, consistent with the vintage age of the piece. The ceramic body is exceptionally attractive and well preserved overall. There is one small visible imperfection/chip on the ceramic surface, photographed in detail.
