Big Ben “London Style” – Vintage Estate Pipe – Natural Horn Stem – Made in Holland – c. 1960s/early 1970s

A distinctive vintage Big Ben “London Style” estate pipe, made in Holland and most likely dating from the 1960s to early 1970s.

The most striking feature of this pipe is its elegant natural horn stem. The horn displays beautiful natural variations in colour, ranging from pale cream and honey tones to darker translucent streaks. Combined with the long, gently curved profile, it gives the pipe a particularly graceful and unusual appearance.

The briar has attractive grain throughout, including prominent birdseye on the bowl. During restoration, the old finish was carefully removed and the briar was progressively hand-sanded while preserving the original shape and stampings. A custom warm reddish-brown stain was then applied and gently reduced to allow the natural grain to remain clearly visible.

The stummel was subsequently lightly buffed and finished with carnauba wax. The horn stem was carefully polished while retaining its natural colour variations and character.
The chamber was reamed and all airways are cleaned and sanitized.

The result is a highly presentable vintage Big Ben with a deep, warm finish and a particularly attractive contrast between the reddish briar and pale natural horn.
