This elegant flower vessel was crafted by the Kutani ware artist Tōshō (陶勝), representing the classic coloured and gold-decorated style of traditional Kutani pottery.

The vase features an off-white crackle glaze with fine natural craquelure across the entire surface. It has a full bulbous body, short neck and wide mouth, presenting a steady and elegant silhouette. The body is finely painted with a vigorous plum tree motif, blooming with red and white plum blossoms. The branches are coloured with deep green enamel, while the petals are delicately accented with sprinkled gold detailing, creating a rich, luxurious and traditional Kutani aesthetic.

The base bears the artist’s original red handwritten seal: Kutani Tōshō (九谷 陶勝).

The piece comes complete with its original paulownia wooden tomobako (共箱). The box lid is hand-inscribed “Vase”, “Kutani-yaki (九谷焼)”, and signed “Tōshō (陶勝)” with a red seal. A yellow silk storage cloth is included, preserving the full original presentation set.

Considering its age, the vase is preserved in excellent condition. No cracks, no chips, no restorations. The original tomobako shows minor age-related oxidation, dust and wear. Overall condition is very good for its period.
