Design and Craftsmanship

This is a bronze flower vase from Takaoka Bronze Ware (高岡銅器), Japan.

The surface features a marbled pattern ranging from red to brown, with gold decoration applied throughout. Reddish-brown and deep brown tones overlap irregularly with the gold, creating a richly varied surface.

Fine blue-green horizontal lines provide a distinctive accent across the upper and lower sections of the vase. The upper section features numerous closely spaced lines forming a broad band, while the lower section is defined by narrower bands separated by wider intervals.

The contrast between the irregular marbled surface and the precisely arranged horizontal lines gives the vase a refined design without appearing monotonous.

Color and Surface

Gold decoration is layered over the red-to-brown marbled surface. Depending on how the light falls on the vase, some areas appear more prominently golden, while in others the reddish tones become more pronounced.

The blue-green horizontal lines add a clear accent, bringing together reddish-brown, deep brown, gold, and blue-green tones across the surface.

Form, Dimensions and Practical Use

The vase has a rounded, elongated body that gradually narrows from the shoulders toward a short, slender mouth, creating a smooth and well-defined silhouette.

The vase is in very good overall condition.
