Denader 004 — Rare CB Carbonaceous Chondrite Meteorite Slice
An exceptional authentic slice of Denader 004, an officially recognized meteorite listed in the Meteoritical Bulletin Database (MB 115). Found in Gao, Mali, in 2025, Denader 004 has a remarkably small recorded total mass of only 1,457 g and is officially classified as a CB carbonaceous chondrite, part of the rare metal-rich CH–CB family. The database currently lists it among only nine approved meteorites classified specifically as CB, making material from this meteorite particularly uncommon.
Denader 004 displays a spectacular metal-rich brecciated texture, consisting of approximately 40% rounded to ellipsoidal kamacite-dominated metal nodules embedded within approximately 60% silicate-rich groundmass. The silicate component contains radial and finely barred chondrules reaching up to about 4 mm, together with chondrule and mineral fragments. Its principal silicates include enstatite and forsterite, accompanied by olivine, low-Ca pyroxene and aluminous diopside, while minor phases include troilite, kamacite, taenite, magnetite, spinel and schreibersite. This extraordinary mixture produces the striking metallic circular structures visible across a polished slice.
Scientifically, Denader 004 is especially interesting because its unusually high proportion of silicate material, chondrule sizes, fine-grained matrix and mineralogy prevent an unambiguous assignment to either the CBa or CBb subgroup; it therefore retains the broader official CB classification.
This specimen has excellent provenance: it was acquired from Mohamed Ali loud, whom the official Meteoritical Bulletin entry records as holding 140 g of Denader 004 material.
