Statement of the Artist:
"This painting is an exploration of the dissolution of form and the uncontrollable energy of nature. My intention was not to create a photorealistic representation of a sailing vessel, but to capture the visceral experience of navigation at its most extreme, where the physical structure fuses with the environment.
The work presents a classical sailboat that appears to be disintegrating or transforming. I have used a heavy impasto technique and a spatula to build and deconstruct the hull and sails. Earthy tones, broken whites and touches of oxide applied with a rough texture evoke aged wood, salt, and the wear of time, suggesting that the boat is part of the landscape as much as the sea.
The environment is a vibrant, textured blue sky filled with gestural movement, colliding violently with a dark, deep sea at the bottom. This collision of color and texture creates dramatic tension, where the boat is a focal point of light trapped in a maelstrom. It is a meditation on the fragility of human construction against the eternity of the ocean and the sky.
