Japanese Mashiko ware tokkuri (sake bottle) created by ceramic artist Yotsumoto Tetsuo (四本哲男, born 1952).

Yotsumoto was born in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. While still a student, he became acquainted with pottery and later trained in Mashiko under the potter Nakamura Fumimasa. He became independent in 1975.

His works have been selected for several important Japanese craft exhibitions, including the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition and the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.

This piece is a fine example of Japanese studio pottery from the Mashiko tradition, combining a functional sake vessel form with the individual character of the artist’s handmade work.
