Item Description

This lot presents two fine pieces of traditional Japanese Bizen ceramic ware from Okayama Prefecture, renowned for its unglazed, wood-fired aesthetic.

The larger piece is a Matcha Chawan (Tea Bowl): Features a generous size and the warm ochre, russet, and grey tones characteristic of traditional Bizen wood-firing, with a rich reddish-brown interior and rim. It comes in its original artist-signed wooden box (kiribako).

As a product of a historic Bizen kiln, this yunomi (tea cup) is crafted by Kimura Toho (木村陶峰), the master of the renowned Bizen pottery kiln "Tosei-en." He is one of the distinguished ceramic artists who has created numerous exceptional tea and sake utensils while preserving traditional Bizen techniques and the natural, earthy texture of the clay.
The two pieces are offered together as a set. Beyond their use in tea ceremony, both would suit display as examples of traditional Japanese stoneware craftsmanship.
