Superb and rare pair of candlestick-candelabra from the Napoleon III period (circa 1860), bearing witness to the exceptional refinement and inventiveness of French art bronziers of the 19th century. Inspired by mythological and bacchic compositions of the renowned sculptor Clodion as well as the Neo-Louis XVI repertoire, this piece features young fauns in lively, contrasted attitudes. Supporting an openwork structure of scrolled branch candelabra shaped like vine shoots, the piece exudes a striking decorative presence, ideal for illuminating a character interior or perfecting a collection of antique bronzes.

A COLLECTOR'S PIECE: RICH AND LUMINOUS MATERIALITY

Each candelabra presents a composition of great execution finesse. The figures of young fauns with a brown and nuanced patina stand on circular white marble bases of pristine purity, richly adorned with chased and gilt bronze friezes (pearl motifs, palmettes, and foliage) and elevated by finely chased turned feet. The double light branches, in gilt bronze with their original beautiful patina, sweep into stylized handles to support finely worked gadrooned binnets. The subtle contrast between the dark patinated bronze, the brilliance of the gilding, and the whiteness of the marble confers timeless distinction upon this pair.
