A quietly powerful stoneware sake flask (tokkuri), its muted grey-brown surface enlivened by a natural ash deposit that pools into a warm orange-red flash across one side. The flared neck and full, rounded body give the piece a grounded, sculptural presence typical of contemporary wood-fired stoneware.
Height: 14.0cm / Body diameter: 9.4cm.
【Artist Profile】
Ken Mihara (三原研, b.1958, Shimane Prefecture) began his training in 1981 under the potter Kenji Funaki. He has been selected for numerous major exhibitions, including the Chanoyu no Zokei Ten (Tea Ceremony Form Exhibition), the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition, and the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and has held solo exhibitions at venues including Nihombashi Mitsukoshi and Namba Takashimaya. His work is held in public collections including the Takagi Bonsai Museum in Tokyo. This piece is accompanied by its original tomobako (signed wooden box) and the artist's own career document (keirekisho), pictured.
