卖家的描述
Set of 2 Vintage Japanese Maekake Advertising Work Aprons – Matsuo Sake & Sanshu – Showa Period – Japan
A distinctive set of two vintage Japanese maekake, traditional Japanese work aprons featuring bold commercial advertising designs.
Maekake were traditionally worn by merchants, craftsmen, shop workers, brewery workers and other tradespeople in Japan. Their durable construction and striking company logos and lettering have made vintage examples increasingly interesting as pieces of Japanese commercial, textile and folk culture.
This lot contains two different vintage advertising maekake.
1. “元祖 三州釜吹元” / Ashihara Kanamono Co., Ltd.
A vintage Japanese advertising maekake featuring the inscription:
“元祖 三州釜吹元”
and:
“特約店 芦原金物株式会社”
(Authorized Dealer: Ashihara Kanamono Co., Ltd.)
The design features a particularly striking large circular emblem containing the Japanese character “大”, together with traditional Japanese commercial lettering.
Additional address and telephone information for the Osaka business appears toward the bottom.
Approximate size:
Height: 75 cm
Width: 44 cm
Measurements were taken while laid flat. Please allow for slight measurement variations.
2. “松尾 / Matsuo” Sake Advertising Maekake
A vintage Japanese sake advertising maekake prominently featuring the large characters:
“松尾” (Matsuo)
together with the inscription:
“優等清酒” (Superior Sake)
The lower part bears the name associated with Takahashi Sukesaku Shuzoten (高橋助作酒造店).
“Matsuo” is a Japanese sake brand produced by Takahashi Sukesaku Shuzoten in Nagano Prefecture, a historic sake brewery founded in 1875.
The bold calligraphic lettering and traditional advertising layout give this piece a particularly attractive and authentic Japanese appearance.
Approximate size:
Height: 70 cm
Width: 46 cm
Tie length: approx. 82 cm
Measurements were taken while laid flat. Please allow for slight measurement variations.
Period
These are vintage Japanese pieces believed to date from the Showa period (1926–1989).
The exact production dates are unknown.
Condition
Both maekake are vintage, pre-owned items and show signs of age, storage and previous use.
There may be creasing, wrinkles, fading, discoloration, rubbing, wear, staining and other age-related imperfections.
Please carefully examine all photographs for the exact condition, including the fabric, printed lettering, edges and ties.
The photographs form an important part of the description.
The material has not been professionally identified.
About Maekake
Maekake are traditional Japanese work aprons that have long been associated with merchants, craftsmen, breweries, shops and other businesses.
Many were printed with company names, trademarks or advertisements, effectively serving both as practical workwear and as promotional items.
Vintage examples therefore provide an interesting glimpse into Japan’s commercial and everyday culture, as well as its distinctive graphic and textile design traditions.
This set is particularly appealing because it combines two different forms of traditional Japanese advertising, including a sake-related example.
Suitable for collectors of Japanese vintage advertising, traditional textiles, sake memorabilia, Japanese workwear and commercial ephemera.
They can also make distinctive decorative pieces for a Japanese restaurant, bar, shop, studio or interior display.
Number of items: 2
Country of origin: Japan
Period: Showa period (1926–1989), exact date unknown
