Awaodori created by Takahashi Keiten is a metal craft work produced with the motif of traditional performing arts in Tokushima by him, a master of Yamagata casting and a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property "Chanoyu kama" (Living National Treasure).
Awaodori is a traditional Japanese performing art and Bon dance with a history of over 400 years, originating in Tokushima Prefecture (formerly Awa Province).
Counted as one of Japan's Three Great Bon Dances and Four Great Festivals of Shikoku, more than one million tourists from Japan and abroad visit the main event in Tokushima City held every August.
This work uses iron, expressing the supple hand movements and foot steps characteristic of Awaodori while having the profound feel peculiar to metal.

Artist Profile:
Takahashi Keiten was a metal craftsman (kama-shi) representing Japan from Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture, and was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "Chanoyu kama" in 1996.
While pursuing the traditional beauty of old kettles, he established innovative ground patterns and modeling incorporating modern sensibility, significantly elevating the status of Yamagata castings.
1920: Born in Yamagata Prefecture.
1950: Studied under Nagano Tesshi, a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (kama-shi), receiving full-scale guidance in traditional tea kettle techniques and designs.
1979: Respectfully made a presented kettle on the occasion of the Crown Prince's (Emperor Emeritus) visit to Yamagata Prefecture.
1992: Received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, 4th Class.
1996: Designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "Chanoyu kama".
2009: Passed away at the age of 89.
