卖家的描述
A Red Raku Tea Bowl by Shōraku, Created in Homage to the Chōjirō Tradition
This expressive Japanese tea bowl was made by Shōraku (昭楽) in the tradition of Chōjirō utsushi (長次郎写), paying homage to the early Raku tea bowls associated with Chōjirō.
The bowl has a compact, deep form with gently irregular walls and a subtly uneven rim. Its hand-formed character gives the piece the quiet and intimate appearance traditionally appreciated in Japanese tea ceramics.
The surface is covered in a rich red to reddish-orange glaze, with irregular areas of dark grey and black appearing across the exterior. Fine crackling and natural variations in the glaze add depth to the surface, while the interior remains comparatively restrained.
The underside retains a strongly handmade appearance, with a small defined foot and an impressed potter's mark.
The original wooden storage box (tomobako) bears an inscription referring to 「長次郎写」 (Chōjirō utsushi) and is signed 「昭楽造」 (Shōraku zō / Made by Shōraku) together with the artist's seal.
About the Chōjirō Tradition
Chōjirō (長次郎) is traditionally regarded as the foundational potter of Raku ware, and his tea bowls became closely associated with the development of the wabi-cha aesthetic in the late 16th century.
The term “utsushi” (写) refers to the Japanese tradition of studying and reinterpreting an admired earlier work or master's style. It does not indicate that the bowl was made by Chōjirō himself.
This bowl therefore represents Shōraku's interpretation of that earlier Raku tradition, combining the warm character of Aka-Raku (Red Raku) with the restrained, hand-formed aesthetic associated with tea ceremony.
