Portrait of Lung Leg with a salamander on the face, photographed in 1987
in Kern's apartment on Eleventh Street, in New York, during the filming
of the first scene of the film "Submit to Me Now".
The author recounts that Lung Leg appeared that day with a small
green salamander in his pocket, asking if it could walk on his face
during the shot. He often brought living animals on set: at one point a jar
of black crickets, at another a can of fishing worms.
THE SUBJECT
Lung Leg has been the fetish actress of the Transgression Cinema and
featured in several Kern films. She is also the model for the cover image of
"EVOL" by Sonic Youth (1986), taken from a frame of the film "Submit to Me".

THE ARTIST
Richard Kern was one of the figures of the Transgression Cinema, the
underground New York cinema movement of the 1980s that originated in the East
Village. He directed the video for Sonic Youth's "Death Valley '69" in 1985, and
later videos for King Missile and Marilyn Manson.
He has held over fifty solo exhibitions internationally, including at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Feature Inc. in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. He has participated in group shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum. He lives and works in New York.

Extremely Fine. Flat, never exhibited or framed. No creases, no signs of handling, intact corners.
