An expressive anthropomorphic terracotta figure/vessel, referencing the rich sculptural tradition of the Mangbetu people of North-Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The piece features a characteristic globular body and a tall conical neck culminating in a top rim opening. The facial features are finely stylized with semi-closed eyes and vertical scarification incisions on the cheeks. The lower part is adorned with traditional incised geometric decorations, including a triangular motif collar and a criss-cross pattern surrounding the belly.
The surface exhibits a darkened, burnished finish with visible signs of age, handling, and natural patina, adding great character to the piece.
