Walter Sita (20th century) – Paris, the Opera
Walter Sita is a French painter influenced by the great masters of the 19th century. He particularly favours views of Paris, which he depicts in an elegant and lively style, characterised by a generous palette and careful attention to light and atmosphere.
This work depicts the Paris Opera at the centre of a lively boulevard. The iconic building dominates the composition, surrounded by Parisian façades, shops and numerous pedestrians. Horse-drawn carriages and vehicles create an atmosphere evoking Paris in an earlier era.
The luminous palette combines blues, ochres, reds and warm golden tones from the shopfronts. The reflections on the pavement, together with the artist’s visible brushwork, give the scene a strong sense of movement and depth.
