This painting presents a serene autumn landscape featuring a river or small lake surrounded by trees. The scene conveys an intense sense of calm, silence, and contemplativeness, as if nature were suspended in a moment of absolute stillness. The abundance of ocher, reddish, golden, and green tones envelops the composition in a warm atmosphere, while the water softly reflects the surroundings and adds depth to the landscape.

In the right area stand several tall, sturdy trunks occupying a prominent position. The closest tree has a wide dark trunk, slightly inclined, rising to disappear among the upper branches. Beside it, other lighter trunks introduce yellowish and greenish hues that seem to correspond to light filtering through the vegetation.

The branches extend from the right side toward the center and the upper left, forming a natural arch over the water. Their long, delicate lines visually organize the composition and direct the gaze into the distance. The leaves, rendered in a wide variety of reds, oranges, coppers, and browns, clearly announce the arrival of autumn.

Some branches descend to approach the water surface, adding a sense of proximity and movement. The small reddish leaves seem to float before the landscape, creating a light foreground that contrasts with the solidity of the large trunks. This arrangement gives the impression that the viewer is looking at the scene from beneath the shade of a tree.

The right bank is covered by a dense carpet of fallen leaves. The gold, ocher and brown tones transform the ground into a warm and luminous surface that gently descends toward the water. Among the leaves emerge roots, rocks and small patches of vegetation that enrich the terrain and reinforce its natural appearance.

Several rocks in shades of violet, gray and reddish tones mark the meeting point between the shore and the water. Their staggered placement creates a gentle transition toward the river and directs the gaze toward the center of the scene. These stones introduce solid forms in contrast with the fluidity of the water and the lightness of the leaves.

The water occupies a large part of the lower left half and appears calm, almost motionless. Its surface reflects the trunks, the canopies and the brightness of the sky, though the shapes are softly blurred. The muted greens, grays, beiges and browns mix in the reflection, creating a sense of depth and a delicate continuity between the real landscape and its image on the water.

On the opposite bank extends a narrow strip of illuminated earth, accompanied by slender trees and low vegetation. This area marks the water's edge and guides the gaze toward the background. The yellows and golds of the shoreline contrast with the gray-green of the distant trees, suggesting a soft, diffused light.

Beyond, a small hill and numerous masses of trees fade progressively into the distance. Their colors are more muted and bluish, creating a sense of atmospheric depth. The background seems to be covered by a light mist that softens the contours and reinforces the tranquil, contemplative character of the landscape.

The sky is barely discernible among the branches and canopies, but its clarity illuminates the surrounding environment. The light appears to correspond to a cloudy day or an early hour when the sun still does not cast pronounced shadows. This even illumination allows the richness of autumn colors to be appreciated without disturbing the overall serenity of the scene.

The absence of human figures makes the place a natural refuge, apart from noise and daily activity. Everything seems at rest: the branches, the water, and the fallen leaves. However, the color changes remind us that the landscape is in full transformation and that autumn slowly advances over the forest.
