Obv: Arabic inscription naming الملك الظاهر غازي بن يوسف بن أيوب(“al-Malik al-Zahir Ghazi, son of Yusuf, son of Ayyub”)within a six-pointed star bordered by lines and pellets; mint-and-date inscription around.
Rev: Arabic inscription naming الإمام الناصر أحمد(“al-Imam al-Nasir Ahmad”)and الملك العادل أبو بكر(“al-Malik al-‘Adil Abu Bakr”)within a six-pointed star bordered by lines and pellets; religious inscription around.

Al-Zahir Ghazi, a son of Saladin, ruled Aleppo from 1186 to 1216. He strengthened the city’s citadel and developed its royal palace complex, leaving a lasting mark on medieval Aleppo. This issue acknowledges both the Abbasid caliph al-Nasir and the Ayyubid overlord al-‘Adil Abu Bakr, reflecting the overlapping religious and political authorities of the period.
