Date: ca. 1st–4th century AD
Object Type: Barbed arrowhead with an elongated tang
Material: Metal alloy, probably bronze
Form: Triangular blade, two backward-facing barbs and an elongated tang
Technique: Casting; blade reinforced by a pronounced central ridge
Symbolism: Sagitta — the context of Roman archery and weapon technology

Dimensions
Length: 68.05 mm ±
Width: 17.06 mm ±
Weight: 9.87 g ±
Description
With its triangular blade, backward-facing twin barbs and elongated tang, this arrowhead reflects the functional design of ancient weaponry. The raised central ridge strengthens the blade while creating a distinctive profile. The long tang served to secure the metal tip within the wooden arrow shaft. The arrow, expressed by the Latin term sagitta, belongs within the context of Roman archery equipment.
Barbed and tanged metal arrowheads in the British Museum provide formal comparisons for the triangular blade, central ridge and attachment system. The preservation of both barbs and the long tang allows the overall design to remain clearly legible. Variations in the brown and greenish patina across the surface highlight the object’s historical character. Its museum-quality presentation makes it a distinctive example for collectors interested in the form and manufacture of ancient weapons.
Note
Warm lighting inspired by museum illumination was used to naturally highlight the object’s surface, form, craftsmanship and historical appearance. Suspension cords and other display accessories visible in the photographs serve as presentation aids and are not included in the sale.
★ Please refer to the stated measurements when assessing the actual size. Objects of different dimensions may appear at a similar scale in photographs, so their apparent size in an image does not, by itself, reflect their physical dimensions.

Appropriate advanced laboratory analyses may help clarify specific questions concerning material, manufacture and dating; such scientific examinations are conducted separately from, and beyond the scope of, the sales process.
The object has been documented using high-resolution equipment. No intervention has been made to its form or structural integrity; image editing has been restricted to limited color-balance adjustments.
Museum-standard technical photographs can be provided upon request while the auction is ongoing. An expert assessment report and a signed ownership document issued in the buyer’s name can also be supplied in PDF format within 3–5 business days, provided they are requested before shipment.
