Japanese Kutani Ware Vase by Ryusen – Red and White Plum Blossoms with Gold Accents – Original Wooden Box

An elegant Japanese Kutani ware (Kutani-yaki) ceramic vase attributed to Ryusen (龍仙), featuring a beautiful composition of red and white plum blossoms, delicate gold accents, and a small green bird.

This decorative vase represents the beauty of traditional Japanese ceramic craftsmanship and the symbolic elegance of plum blossoms.

The vase comes with its wooden storage box, a wooden identification plaque bearing the artist's name, and a traditional Kutani ware information leaflet.

ABOUT KUTANI WARE

Kutani ware is a celebrated Japanese ceramic tradition originating in the Kaga region of present-day Ishikawa Prefecture.

Known for its vibrant colors, detailed decorative painting, and distinctive artistic techniques, Kutani ware has been admired for centuries.

Its traditional designs frequently incorporate flowers, birds, landscapes, and other elements inspired by Japanese nature and culture.

This vase beautifully reflects these characteristics through its colorful floral decoration and carefully balanced composition.

ARTIST – RYUSEN (龍仙)

The accompanying wooden identification plaque bears the inscription "Kutani-yaki, Ume, Ryusen-saku," identifying the work as a Kutani ware vase decorated with plum blossoms and attributed to Ryusen.

The wooden storage box also bears handwritten Japanese calligraphy associated with the work.

These accompanying items provide additional interest for collectors of Japanese ceramics.

DESIGN AND DECORATION

The vase features an elegant ivory-colored background decorated with a magnificent old plum tree in full bloom.

The tree's powerful dark branches extend across the rounded body of the vase, creating a dynamic and natural composition.

Numerous red and white plum blossoms are delicately painted among the branches.

Selected flowers are enhanced with fine gold-colored accents, adding warmth and refinement to the overall design.

A small green bird appears among the blossoms, introducing a charming element of Japanese nature.

The contrast between the dark tree branches, vivid red flowers, delicate white blossoms, and soft ivory background creates an impressive visual effect.

The surface displays a fine crackle-like glaze pattern, which adds texture and character to the ceramic finish.

The vase has a gracefully flared opening, a slender neck, and a rounded body, creating a harmonious traditional silhouette.

The rim is finished with a fine gold-colored border.

SYMBOLISM OF PLUM BLOSSOMS

In Japanese culture, plum blossoms, known as "Ume," symbolize perseverance, renewal, hope, and the arrival of spring.

Because plum trees bloom during the colder months, they are traditionally associated with strength and resilience.

Red and white plum blossoms are also considered auspicious motifs in Japanese decorative arts.

This symbolic meaning makes the vase especially attractive as a decorative object for collectors who appreciate Japanese art and culture.
