1788-1988 Sydney Bicentennial Vintage Sterling Silver Contrast Photo Frame, London 1987.
This contrast sterling silver vintage photo frame commemorating Sydney's bicentennial is in very good condition.
The frame design features flowers, fruits, seeds, and a kangaroo.
The bicentennial dates (1788-1988) are inscribed on a wavy ribbon at the top of the frame. The back and the royal blue velvet stand are in good condition.
The contrasts (authenticity marks) on the bottom left are sharp and clear, dating the frame to London, 1987.
RBB (left end contrast) Maker's Mark: The unique initials of the jewelry or silversmith workshop that registered the piece with the London Assay Office. The maker RBB was active from the late 1960s to the 1990s, specializing in silver photo frames and book covers.
Along the same line (beside RBB) are three official British state symbols: Leopard head: The symbol of the London Assay Office. Britannia symbol (a woman with a trident): Indicates higher and less common silver purity: Britannia silver of law 958. This means it contains 95.8% pure silver (higher than traditional 92.5% silver, or sterling silver).
Letter N: The year mark of the London Assay Office, certifying 1987 as the exact year of manufacture.
Independent lozenge on the right (R 1987 B): Commemorative Mark: A stylized diamond-shaped mark with letters and numbers inside. The UK assay offices minted these additional marks in limited editions to celebrate significant historical events (in this case, pre-dating Australia’s official bicentennial celebration in 1988).
Photo dimensions: 12 x 7.5 cm;
Frame dimensions: 20.5 x 15.3 cm;
Weight: 311 g.
